Lamb of God

Having gone to the Catholic Church for many years I fell into the routine of following the rituals both in my actions within the church such as the sign of the cross with holy water when entering, genuflecting before entering the pew, standing, kneeling and sitting when required. I also followed the priest’s scripture and missalette readings with the appropriate response. I didn’t know what these responses meant and to tell you the truth I never thought much about them, I just did them because I was told I had to.

After I was saved I was talking to someone about the Catholic Church and I suddenly had a revelation about one of the required responses. “Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world.” I finally understood what that meant and what I was saying. In the Old Testament God required animal sacrifices. These sacrifices had to be performed every year in the Most Holy Place by the high priest with blood that wasn’t his own. It hit me, Christ was the final sacrifice. His died for our sins and it’s His blood that makes us clean. Christ is the Lamb of God; He alone takes away the sins of the world.

Hebrews 9:11-14 “When Christ came as a high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”

Hebrews 9:24-28 “For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the since of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

1John 2:2-3 “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense-Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the attoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
